As part of the SAND5G project’s commitment to strengthening next-generation network security, researchers presented their latest scientific contribution titled “An Efficient Keccak-based FPGA Architecture for 5G Authentication and Key Agreement Protocol” at the 29th Euromicro Conference on Digital System Design (DSD 2026), held in Kraków, Poland (September 2–4, 2026).

The presentation highlighted a novel hardware architecture leveraging the Keccak cryptographic primitive to optimize the performance and efficiency of the 5G Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) protocol on FPGA devices. As 5G infrastructures require high throughput, ultra-low latency, and robust hardware-level trust, this work directly supports SAND5G’s objectives of securing critical communication nodes against emerging threats.

The DSD conference brings together leading international researchers and industry experts in digital system design, embedded hardware, and cybersecurity. The paper showcases how advanced FPGA implementations can effectively meet the stringent performance and security demands of modern and future 5G network components.
